Tiles Survive! is a free-to-play mobile strategy-survival game from FunPlus in which you follow former Army Special Forces officer Sarge, leading a band of survivors to rebuild civilization in a zombie-ravaged wilderness. Its signature hook is tile-based exploration: you clear fog one tile at a time to expand your territory, uncovering different biomes, resource nodes, ruins, blueprints, and titan-zombie threats. Underneath the exploration sits a familiar 4X survival loop — assign survivors to jobs, wire electricity to speed up production, raise your Power Plant to gate progression, recruit and level heroes, and join alliances for cooperative and competitive play. The game crossed 20 million downloads within a year of launch and regularly charts in the US top grossing list.
Our take
The core is genuinely more interesting than most 4X-survival clones — the fog-clearing tile map gives exploration real texture, and the base/hero systems are competently built. But two things drag it down: aggressive, spreadsheet-heavy monetization (VIP tiers, hero banners, speed-up bundles, weekly/monthly passes) and widely-criticized "bait-and-switch" advertising that shows puzzle mini-games making up only a sliver of the actual gameplay. If you already enjoy the State of Survival / Whiteout Survival formula and go in eyes-open about the ads and spending pressure, it is one of the better-produced entries in the genre. If you expect the casual puzzle game the ads promise, you will be disappointed.
