You control a party of four Espers and swap between them mid-fight — with no cooldown and no cost. Beginners mash one character. Good players are always mid-swap, because the swap is where NTE's damage and reactions actually come from.
The Esper Meter and the Entry Attack
Each Esper has an Esper Meter. When it fills, their portrait glows — and swapping them in fires an Entry Attack. That Entry Attack's element reacts with whoever was on field, if the two are neighbours on the Esper Cycle. That's the core loop: charge a meter, swap in, trigger the reaction.
Charge the meter fast
- Basic attacks — slow.
- Skills and ultimates — moderate.
- Dodge counters — fast.
- Parry — fills the entire bar instantly. Learn to parry and your reactions come out twice as often.
Watch the portraits, not just the enemy. A glowing portrait means a free Entry Attack reaction is ready — swap to cash it in.
Feed the reaction, don't just deal damage
Swaps keep an element reaction alive on a loop. One Esper sets up, you swap to trigger the reaction (Blossom, Remora and friends), then swap to your Main DPS to spend it. Chain three charged Espers of one trio and you get a Triple Cycle — Charge or Discord.
Drill this loop
Build a meter
Parry or dodge-counter to fill an incoming Esper's bar fast.
Swap on the glow
Swap the charged Esper in — the Entry Attack reacts with the on-field element.
Cash out
Swap to your Main DPS while the reaction is fresh and dump damage.
Reset with support
Swap to your support to re-shield and re-buff, then repeat.
Learn Critical Dodge (a last-moment dodge) and the Break Gauge too — dodging cleanly and breaking staggered enemies are what open the window to spam your best swaps safely.
In one line: parry to charge, swap to trigger the Entry Attack, react, spend. The swap is your highest-damage button, not a panic button.
