Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is a vehicular racing game steeped in Ork culture, and it has grown considerably richer and more player-friendly since teaming up with new publisher Wired Productions. Chief among the changes is player-hosted matchmaking through a Game Browser, letting you create public or private matches whenever you like, choosing the mode, maps, and settings yourself instead of depending on external servers. A new Free Roam mode invites you to pick any map and cruise around with friends free of objectives, while hosts can drop waypoints anywhere for an impromptu race, and solo players can take on bots.
The game has also moved away from its former free-to-play model, now offered at a low price bundled with a wealth of content, including more than 150 unlockable items. Previously many of those items sat behind a paywall, so this shift better reflects the developers' design goals and community values, and no third-party account is required, meaning you simply download and play. Bursting with the promise of more speed and more dakka, this Warhammer 40,000 racer channels the reckless energy of the Speedwaaagh, welcoming both early access veterans and newcomers to the chaos on PC.
