Total War: ROME REMASTERED refreshes a genre classic while keeping the package generous, bundling the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion DLCs and, for anyone who does not already own it, a copy of the original ROME: Total War Collection. The visual overhaul brings the classic look up to date with 4K optimization, ultra-widescreen and native UHD resolution support, extending to re-modelled buildings and objects, environmental effects such as dust clouds and heat haze, refreshed high-resolution campaign maps and remodelled, retextured units.
Beyond the fresh coat of paint, this strategy game layers in modern conveniences. The in-game camera gains map rotation and a wider zoom in Campaign mode, while heat maps and new icon overlays surface mechanics like diplomacy and security, and battles benefit from a new tactical map, unit displays and range markers for tighter command. The enhanced mechanics also unlock 16 previously locked factions for a grand total of 38 playable ones. In a first for Total War, you can take a favourite faction into cross-platform multiplayer battles between Windows, macOS and Linux, giving the remastered PC classic a broad competitive reach.
