About The Alters

The Alters is an ambitious sci-fi survival game with an unusual twist on the genre. You play as Jan Dolski, the sole survivor of a crash-landed expedition on a hostile planet, and to make it through you must assemble a crew for your mobile base. Using a substance called Rapidium, you create alternate versions of Jan, the Alters, each one shaped by a different pivotal decision from his past.

Creating those Alters relies on the base's quantum computer, which simulates alternate outcomes of your past choices and uncovers the different life paths Jan might have taken. Every Alter comes with unique skills and emotional depths, presenting both opportunities and challenges as you juggle personal struggles and manage the fragile dynamics of a crew made up of versions of yourself.

Survival mechanics keep the pressure constant. Operating the mobile base means venturing out onto the planet's surface to gather precious resources like metals and organics, but leaving the safe haven exposes you and your Alters to deadly anomalies and the ever-present radiation of the sun, so you must watch the day and night cycle and plan your activities carefully. Woven through it all is a branching narrative rich with moral dilemmas, where your choices shape Jan's relationships with his Alters. It stands as a thoughtful adventure on PC.
