Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance is a real-time strategy game set within the Terminator: Dark Fate universe, following the war between humanity and Legion, the synthetic machine network bent on wiping out what remains of the human race. Its single-player campaign casts you as a commander in the Founders, a coalition built from the scattered remnants of the US military, and tasks you with guiding your army to derail Legion's extermination plan.

Rather than rebuilding from scratch each mission, you carry an army forward across a series of large strategic maps, making decisions about unit placement, battle tactics, and special abilities. The goal is not merely to survive engagements but to emerge as the leader of the resistance, and replaying missions to chase the best possible outcomes is part of honing your skills and military expertise.

The campaign underscores that after the machines seized control, the deadliest threats often come not from Legion but from other desperate human survivors.
