About Tails Noir

Tails Noir poster

Tails Noir opens by telling you plainly that you are not special and not a hero. Thrust into unfortunate circumstances, you find yourself with no choice but to unravel what may be the biggest case of your career. The framing is blunt and existential: nothing you do will truly change things, and yet you are told to get to work, detective. It is a post-noir narrative adventure in which you become raccoon private eye Howard Lotor, exploring a dystopian Vancouver populated by animals as you uncover a deeply personal story of change and transformation.

The game wears its influences openly, drawing on film noir, weird sci-fi, post-Soviet aesthetics, modern political regimes, the works of Lynch and Kaufman, and the existential philosophy of Sartre. It presents itself as a linear, cinematic experience that subverts genre expectations and challenges your perception of what it means to be a person.

Gameplay centers on storytelling and emotional expression, featuring rich, elaborate dialogues inspired by old-school CRPGs alongside exploration of lush environments. As Howard, you forge meaningful connections with a diverse cast in pursuit of truth, shape and express your identity through dialogue choices, and wander both the downtrodden and flourishing districts of a strange yet familiar city. The end of all things is inevitable, but which version of Howard reaches that conclusion is up to you. An indie adventure, it gives PC players a moody, character-driven mystery.
