About Subliminal

Subliminal poster

Subliminal is a first-person horror-puzzle game rendered with software raytracing and inspired by the eerie concept of the Backrooms. Guided by your own conscious, you venture deep into your mind to relive some of your most treasured and sacred core memories, navigating an unsettling inner world where nostalgia and dread sit uncomfortably close together.

Built with Unreal Engine 5, the game leans on cutting-edge lighting and rendering technology, including Lumen and Nanite, to produce strikingly realistic environments, models, geometry, lighting and shadows. Its handcrafted, nostalgia-tinged levels are all connected through a winding, non-linear series of story paths and multiple endings, so how you move through your memories shapes where they lead.

Progress hinges on solving perspective and light-based puzzles, using your surroundings and the nearby play of lights and shadows to find your way onward. Occasionally you may come face to face with manifestations of fear and despair, but your conscious remains present to guide you through the trickier moments. Spanning adventure, RPG, simulation, strategy and indie sensibilities, Subliminal offers an atmospheric, mind-bending horror experience on PC for players who like their scares thoughtful.
