About STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R

STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R poster

STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R is a remake of the highly acclaimed second installment in the STAR OCEAN series, reborn for PC in a distinctive 2.5D style that layers 2D pixel-art characters over detailed 3D environments. It preserves what made the original a classic while folding in modern conveniences, arriving as an action RPG designed to satisfy longtime fans and welcome newcomers to the series alike.

The reworked package is generous. New battle mechanics sharpen the combat, while full Japanese and English voice acting, both original and rearranged music, and quality-of-life additions like fast travel round out the experience. Dungeons, bustling towns, and everything in between are rendered in that striking hybrid aesthetic, where nostalgic pixel characters move through beautiful three-dimensional spaces.

The story begins in Space Date 366, when a Federation officer is transported to a mystical planet and, while searching for a way home, meets a young girl whose people he is drawn to save, just as an ancient prophecy foretold. You can start the journey as either Claude or Rena, and that single choice reshapes the perspective you follow and the allies you are able to recruit. The unique Private Actions system lets you deepen bonds with party members, giving this modernized JRPG a personal dimension alongside its fantasy and science-fiction blend.
