About Spacebase Startopia

Spacebase Startopia poster

Spacebase Startopia greets you with VAL, a cheerfully efficient Space Station AI who, after a brief system hiccup, promptly promotes you to Commander of a station that has sat unused for 17 years. As the only rational life form in the sector, you inherit a sprawling facility whose previous commander apparently ran afoul of some wormlike aliens, and it falls to you to avoid the same fate while whipping the place back into shape.

Running the station means juggling a lot at once. You develop new sectors, maintain the three vital Main Decks, and handle the acquisition and entertainment of extraterrestrial visitors whose satisfaction supplies the energy that powers your grander plans. VAL's sensors keep insisting there are hordes of enemy creatures lurking in every other sector, which is almost certainly nothing to worry about, and definitely something you will need to deal with.

The appeal lies in its blend of economic simulation and empire-building strategy, an original mixture that keeps the management side lively and the tone tongue-in-cheek throughout. For PC players who enjoy simulation and strategy served with a healthy dose of comedy, Spacebase Startopia turns the job of station commander into a busy, entertaining conquest of space.
