Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer welcomes you to the Steel Sewer, described as the biggest secret base in the galaxy, and casts you as one of the X Slayers. Their pact is straightforward: they fight the Psyko Sindikate and pledge to defend the people of Earth, even the ones they consider undeserving. The Sindikate, meanwhile, are stealing the Slayers' powers by using the Hackblood to bring evil enemies to life and enslave humanity.
As an X Slayer, you study the secrets of the Hackblood that pulses through your veins, biding your time before striking the Psykos. Combat draws on a deliberately over-the-top arsenal, including the S-Blade, Double Pistols, Glass Blaster, Explosive Sludge Launcher, X100 Rapid Mutilator, Triple Helix Missile Launcher, and Hackblood Power. You hunt your enemies wherever they hide, and those hiding spots range from a bedroom and the sewer to a playground, a dollar-store, a laundromat, and even inside a computer.
The game frames itself as a project begun back in 1998 by the author and his friend Chase, rediscovered years later and finally finished for release. Leaning into that homemade, retro spirit, this action FPS on PC channels first-person shooter nostalgia through a proudly absurd story, a wild weapon lineup, and an eclectic collection of levels to blast through.
