You can travel roughly 500 km of real routes recreated in detail, choosing between present-day European high-speed, long-distance, and suburban tracks, or journeying back to the 1980s to drive a steam train on the sand railway of Upper Silesia, Poland. Trains span multiple eras, with popular steam, diesel, and electric vehicles modeled using realistic physics of the kind previously found only in professional training simulators. Driving safely and arriving on time at the final station is the core of the job.

SimRail is not just about driving, though. You can enter the signal box and take on the role of train dispatcher, managing your station, preparing paths for trains, and following the rules and schedule while contending with devices from different eras that can occasionally break. The multiplayer mode lets you cooperate with players worldwide as driver or dispatcher, complete with real-time weather and communication. Rendered in the Unity engine, this PC simulation immerses you in a convincing virtual railway world.
