Romestead is set in a world where Rome has fallen, casting you into an action-adventure survival experience for one to eight players. You rebuild civilization from the ruins, fighting off hordes of the walking dead, raising settlements, and restoring the Roman gods, or you can simply kick back and farm alongside friends. The dead roam at night and the gods have fallen silent, leaving you to explore, gather, build, and gradually transform a rough camp into a thriving settlement.
Progression follows a biome-based structure. You explore new areas, collect resources, craft better gear, and restore the gods through offerings and sacrifices, then defeat bosses to unlock the next crafting tier and move on to the next biome. If you prefer a slower pace, you can take your time decorating your settlement, experimenting with automation, tending your crops and spending time with friends instead. The game scales its difficulty based on how many players share the world, and while it is balanced for up to eight, it will not stop you from inviting more.
A physical approach to resource management sets Romestead apart. Alongside a regular inventory, heavy resources exist as physical objects in the world that you pick up, carry, throw and haul, or move by building carts. You can even chuck a boulder at an approaching enemy. You also recruit survivors as artisans, keep your people content, and grow towns into hubs for crafting, farming and production. For PC players who enjoy indie RPG survival, this offers cooperative depth.
