It borrows heavily from the Rise of Kingdoms template while adding age advancement and more directable battles, but as a 2024 release it still has to prove it can go the distance.

The verdict

Age of Empires Mobile is the more exciting pick if the franchise nostalgia and its more directable battles appeal to you, and its production polish is a genuine step up. Rise of Kingdoms still wins on proven depth and longevity, so cautious players may want to see whether AoE Mobile sustains its momentum before committing years to it.
