About Pentiment

Pentiment poster

Pentiment is a historical narrative-driven game from Obsidian that centers on character development, heavily stylized art and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Bavaria. You play as Andreas Maler, a clever illustrator who becomes caught up in a series of murders in Tassing and Kiersau Abbey over the course of twenty-five years. It falls to you to conduct your own investigation and decide the fate of the community, with each decision carrying lasting consequences that draw Andreas ever closer to the heart of an underlying conspiracy.

The game brings 16th century Europe to life exactly as the master artists of the era might have seen it. Its illustrated world takes inspiration from great illuminated manuscripts and the earliest printed books, turning that visual heritage into a living, breathing setting. Across your investigation you choose different academic and social backgrounds and meet a colorful cast of characters, uncovering the stories and secrets hidden within the small Bavarian town and the nearby abbey.

Set against an era of sweeping religious and political change, Pentiment gives real weight to your choices, letting each decision leave a profound mark on the community's future. You find your own way through this turbulent time and watch the consequences play out across generations. As an adventure with a casual, story-first sensibility on PC, it rewards curiosity, careful judgment and a willingness to live with the outcomes you set in motion.
