Opus Magnum is an open-ended puzzle game from Zachtronics, the studio behind SpaceChem, Infinifactory, TIS-100, and SHENZHEN I/O. You step into the shoes of Anataeus Vaya, hailed as the finest alchemist of his generation, who has just been named Head Alchemist of House Van Tassen, the oldest and wealthiest of the city's ancient Houses. Behind the family's lavish exterior, though, dangers stir that alchemy alone may not resolve.
The heart of the game is designing and building machines that carry out alchemical processes. Using programmable arms, customizable tracks, and stranger devices like Van Berlo's wheel and the Glyph of Animismus, you engineer contraptions to produce remedies, gemstones, weapons, and more. Because the puzzles are open-ended, you compete against friends and the wider world to craft solutions that are the simplest, fastest, or most compact, and you can export animated GIFs to show off your most elegant designs.
Full Steam Workshop integration lets you build and share your own puzzles with an easy editor, and top community creations are collected in the prestigious Journal of Alchemical Engineering, curated by Zachtronics. Wrapped around all this indie puzzle and simulation gameplay on PC is a rich story of intrigue and dark plots swirling among the city's ancient Houses.
