MIO: Memories in Orbit is an atmospheric metroidvania that unfolds aboard the Vessel, an enormous technological ark drifting aimlessly through space. You play as MIO, a nimble robot with extraordinary abilities who awakens to find this once-purposeful ship reduced to a field of ruins, overgrown with lush vegetation and roamed by machines gone rogue. The reason its AI caretakers, the Pearls, have ceased functioning is a mystery, and with the Vessel facing imminent shutdown, you must dive into its depths to revive its lost memories and uncover your own past and destiny.
Exploration drives the adventure as you guide MIO through the vast expanse of the ship. You are not entirely alone, though, since repairing damaged robots wins you help in piecing together the ark's history while earning valuable bonuses, and interacting with the environment reveals more of its secrets, hidden pathways, and the dark truth behind its tragic blackout.
Much of the game's appeal lies in its presentation. Breathtaking scenery packed with detail draws inspiration from comics, paintings, and anime, filling the universe with artistic wonder, while a dynamic soundtrack blending lo-fi beats and choral melodies carries you along. The Vessel itself behaves like a living labyrinth, a true organism with its own ecosystems and bestiary, making it a memorable indie adventure for PC explorers.
