Medieval Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and the upkeep of architectural works and mechanical equipment using medieval technology. You build cities, castles and fortifications, construct mechanical devices and engines, and carry out landscaping and underground mining, with an entire planet available to explore.
The game draws inspiration from real medieval technology and the ways people of that time built structures and machinery. It strives to respect the laws of physics and history, deliberately avoiding any technologies that were not available between the 5th and 15th centuries, which grounds the sandbox in a consistent, believable framework.
While the focus falls on construction, the game can also be approached as an action title. Rather than relying on direct man-to-man combat, players are encouraged to lean on creativity and engineering skill, building war machines and fortifications instead of commanding troops; the emphasis is meant to be on the machinery you create. Medieval Engineers is the second engineering game from Keen Software House, following Space Engineers, which sold over 2 million copies in its first year and remains a bestseller. Blending action, simulation, strategy and indie sensibilities, it offers open-ended medieval building and experimentation on PC.
