About Martha Is Dead

Martha Is Dead poster

Martha Is Dead is a dark first-person psychological thriller set in 1944 Italy, where the boundaries between reality, superstition and the tragedy of war grow increasingly blurred. As fighting escalates between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a drowned woman is discovered: Martha. Her twin sister Giulia, daughter of a German soldier, is left alone to confront the raw trauma of loss and the aftermath of her sibling's murder, and the search for the truth is clouded by unsettling folklore and the encroaching horror of the war.

The game is recommended for an adult audience and is rated ESRB M, PEGI 18 and USK 16; it is not suited to players who may be disturbed by mature depictions including blood, dismemberment, disfigurement, miscarriage and self-harm. Its multi-layered narrative digs into loss, relationships and the psychological undercurrents of a grim period of history.

Among its distinctive touches is unashamedly authentic Italian voice acting, making it the first indie game to launch with native Italian as the default language for fuller immersion. It comes from LKA, the award-winning developer behind The Town of Light, a studio known for reality-based narrative games that tackle difficult subjects. On PC, this indie adventure leans hard into atmosphere and psychological weight.
