Set in 1930, Mafia is an action adventure that follows cabdriver Tommy Angelo, whose chance run-in with the mob pulls him into a world of organized crime he never sought out. Wary at first of throwing in with the Salieri family, Tommy finds the money too tempting to walk away from. Climbing the ranks brings bigger payouts and dirtier work, and even as he earns the family's respect, becoming a Made Man leaves him increasingly torn about the life he has chosen.
The game unfolds across New Heaven, a fictional 1930s American city of more than 12 square miles modeled on Depression-era architecture and culture. Its campaign runs to more than 20 missions drawn from the events of the decade, sending Tommy through mob hits, car chases, bootlegging runs, shootouts and bank robberies as he rises from foot-soldier upward.
Behind the wheel, you can drive over 60 period-inspired cars featuring realistic physics and real-time damage. The arsenal spans more than a dozen weapons, from baseball bats and sawed-off shotguns to magnums and the iconic Tommy gun. Note that this rerelease carries an edited soundtrack. For PC players who love a story-led crime saga, it remains a classic.
