Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a single-player Kagura action strategy game steeped in Japanese-inspired imagery and culture. The story unfolds on Mt. Kafuku, a mountain smothered in defilement, and revolves around a repeating day-and-night cycle. By day you purify the villages and ready yourself for sundown, and by night you defend the Maiden against the swarming Seethe, continuing the rhythm until the mountain is finally cleansed and peace returns to the land.
The setting draws deeply on Japanese tradition, weaving in Kagura dance, ceremonial masks and evocative background music. The Seethe pour out from Torii Gates leading to another world once the sun sets, and this enemy wields a variety of abilities as it strikes under cover of darkness with the Maiden as its target. You play as Soh, who wields a sword to protect Yoshiro, the Maiden of the mountain, cutting down foes with fluid, dance-like sword attacks. Crucially, Soh does not fight alone but relies on villagers assigned different roles, so thoughtful placements and tactics fuse action with strategy across each night's defence on PC.
