About Heretic + Hexen

Heretic + Hexen poster

Heretic + Hexen is the definitive re-release of two dark, spell-casting shooters that helped shape their genre. Forged by Raven Software on a modified DOOM engine and originally released in 1994 and 1995, the pair pushed first-person shooters into bold new territory with features like inventory systems, vertical aiming, and distinct character classes, reshaping first-person action for the generations that followed. This enhanced restoration brings the cult classics to new audiences and longtime fans, with broader accessibility across more platforms and languages than before.

Owners receive a generous bundle: Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, and Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, plus two brand-new episodes made in collaboration between individuals at id Software and Nightdive Studios, Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur. In total there are 117 campaign maps and 120 deathmatch maps to work through.

The modern enhancements run deep. Online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op support up to 16 players, local split-screen handles up to 8, and there is a toggleable, enhanced Tome of Power soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult. Community-published mod support arrives with an in-game mod browser, rounding out this action-adventure RPG revival for PC alongside improved performance.
