About Hell is Us

Hell is Us poster

Hell is Us is a third-person action-adventure built around a mix of intense melee fighting and open-ended exploration. You move through a semi-open world hunting for answers while confronting strange creatures at every turn. A civil war has torn the country apart, and on top of that upheaval a mysterious calamity has unleashed supernatural beings that no modern weapon can harm. Armed with a drone and a sword from another age, you carve through lands crawling with terrifying chimeras and try to understand where they came from.

Exploration here works differently from most games. There is no map, no compass, and no quest markers, so following your instincts becomes part of the journey. Inventive writing and level design push you to make your own calls and chart your own route, meaning your discoveries belong to you alone.

Combat pits you against wholly original creatures using weapons forged specifically to fight them, including swords, spears, and axes. Learning each monster's patterns and using your drone wisely are essential to staying alive. Creative Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete has described the central theme as human violence being a perpetual cycle driven by emotion and passion, a idea that runs through the whole experience on PC.
