About Headquarters: World War II

Headquarters: World War II poster

Headquarters: World War II is a fast-paced turn-based strategy game covering the Battle of Normandy across three plot-driven campaigns alongside a number of skirmishes. You choose your side, form your force, assign heroes, level up your units, and draw on Headquarters skills to outmaneuver the enemy, giving each engagement a sense of persistent progression.

The combat system follows an easy-to-learn, hard-to-master philosophy that looks deceptively simple but opens up considerable tactical depth. Units carry front, side, back, and top armor, so positioning matters enormously, while fences and obstacles provide directional cover that depends on the angle of attack. Different terrain types offer varied bonuses and shape line of sight, destroyed vehicles and large objects reshape the battlefield, high-ground mechanics add multiple elevation levels that affect visibility and combat, and destructible buildings crumble through stages of demolition to create fresh challenges.

Visually, every unit and piece of scenery is crafted with fine attention to detail using Unreal Engine 4 to achieve a realistic style, complete with proper physics, burning tank hulks, ruined houses, shell craters, and smoke that convey the horrors of war. Combining simulation and strategy sensibilities, Headquarters: World War II delivers a detailed, tactically rich take on Normandy for PC strategy players.
