A closer look at DarkOrbit Reloaded
DarkOrbit is built around a persistent pilot and ship rather than a self-contained match. Choose a company, complete missions and hunt aliens, then use the resulting progress to develop your equipment. Other pilots share the galaxy, so preparing for a sortie also means deciding where you want to travel and what risks you are ready to accept.
Ship fitting, resource systems and Galaxy Gates provide goals beyond the next enemy. A useful start is to choose one attainable improvement and work toward it, rather than pursuing every ship or system at once. Friends should agree on a server and login route before creating characters: Steam and standalone onboarding have documented differences.

Your way to play
What you can do

Ship fitting
Think beyond the hull
Weapons, generators, drones and specialized equipment contribute to a ship's setup. Choose a job for the next outing and review the whole fit before assuming a new hull alone will solve a difficult encounter.

Companies
Share space with allies and rivals
Three companies frame the game's faction conflict, alongside PvE missions and PvP combat. Coordinate travel with other pilots and learn a route before venturing farther just because a mission marker is visible.

Progression
Give the next upgrade a purpose
The Skylab and Galaxy Gates add resource and activity goals alongside ship combat. Learn one system at a time and compare its current costs with the improvement you actually need.

Getting started
Before your first session
Agree on client and server first
Use the official site or Steam listing. If joining friends or returning to an account, confirm the server and login method before registering another pilot. Steam play is Unity-only.
Learn with a small mission loop
Pick a nearby objective and practice movement, targeting and returning safely. Keep the first outing focused enough that you can tell whether difficulty came from your fit, your route or the encounter.
Inspect equipment before spending
Choose one practical next upgrade and check its requirements in the current client. Try the routine before purchasing Uridium or Premium, and compare benefits rather than buying from a ship name alone.
Official Standalone Unity Client Recommendation
- Operating system
- Windows 10 or newer
- Memory
- 16 GB RAM recommended
- Storage
- 8 GB disk space recommended
Is this for you?
For players who enjoy repeated space-combat sorties, equipment planning and a persistent MMO pilot. Less suited to someone expecting cockpit flight simulation, a finite solo campaign or guaranteed installation-free browser play.
Things to consider
- PvE progression coexists with PvP. Do not assume an unfamiliar route is safe or that a newly acquired ship is ready for every opponent.
- Client and account routes differ. Steam uses Unity, while official October 2026 notes still discuss a separate Flash client; no universal account-transfer or browser-compatibility promise is made.
- Steam's RAM and storage entries contain implausible MB units. The table uses only the official standalone Unity recommendation, which is not a complete minimum specification or a performance guarantee.
Good to know
Can I play DarkOrbit in a normal browser without downloading?
Do not assume so. The landing page retains browser wording, but the official access guidance points to downloadable clients and states that Steam play uses Unity. This profile does not verify modern browser-only gameplay.
Is DarkOrbit Reloaded free?
The base game is free-to-play. Steam discloses in-app purchases and lists Uridium and Premium options. Optional paid benefits are separate from free access.
Is December 3, 2025 the original release date?
That is the Steam release date, not the beginning of DarkOrbit. The Steam launch FAQ describes a new Unity access route and server for an already existing game.
Has the Flash client been completely retired?
The official October 14, 2026 development notes still describe improvements to both Flash and Unity clients. That does not make Flash available through Steam or prove support in a modern browser.
Which requirements apply to the table?
Only the standalone Windows Unity client's published recommendation: Windows 10 or newer, 16 GB RAM and 8 GB disk space. The source does not specify a CPU or GPU, so none is invented here.
