About Eastward

Eastward poster

Eastward is a beautifully detailed adventure game from Shanghai-based indie studio Pixpil, wrapping a charming, richly drawn world around an RPG-tinged journey. It is set in the near future, where society has begun to collapse, the human population sits at an all-time low, and a deadly toxic presence spreads across the land, devouring everything in its path. Those who could flee the miasma retreated into underground villages, but the promise of a thriving world above still calls.

At its center are an unlikely duo, a hardworking miner named John and a mysterious young girl named Sam, who escape the tyrannical grip of Sandfill's subterranean society to seek the surface. Their adventure carries them across a decaying continent aboard a cross-country railway, stopping to explore bustling towns, curious campsites and shady forests full of strange charm.

Gameplay weaves together combat and cooperation. John fends off peculiar monsters and ferocious bosses with tools ranging from a flamethrower and cog-shooter to his trusty frying pan, while Sam can stun foes with a kinetic blast. Switching between the two lets you solve environmental puzzles and clear dungeons, separating the pair to unlock hidden paths or keeping them together to cross perilous ground, giving this PC adventure real depth.
