Dinosaur Fossil Hunter is a storytelling simulator that lets you live the life of a real paleontologist, exploring different lands to search for, uncover and study fossils before preparing the skeletons for your own museum. Along the way you pick up plenty of genuine facts about the extinct creatures that walked the Earth millions of years ago, wrapped inside an intriguing storyline that gives your digs purpose.
Much of the game is about travel and excavation. You drive off-road vehicles across locations inspired by U.S. landscapes, forcing your way through mud, water and various environmental hazards, then use a range of tools to search deformable terrain, destroy rocks and even drain bodies of water in pursuit of your prize. A georadar helps you scan for clues and pinpoint where remains might be buried across the vast terrain.
Actually collecting the fossils is where the challenge deepens, since finding the right area is only the beginning. You dig by hand and work through multiple tools such as a chainsaw, shovel or pickaxe to carefully extract your finds, then prepare them for display in your museum while learning about numerous dinosaur species from their detailed skeletons. As an indie action, adventure and simulation title on PC, it blends hands-on excavation with a love of the ancient past.
