About Derail Valley

Derail Valley poster

Derail Valley hands you the controls of enormous trains and turns railroading into a career you build one delivery at a time. Set across a 256 km2 open world thick with forests, mountains, fields, rivers and a sprawling rail network, this simulation lets you roam on foot or take the throttle across fifteen distinct industries and towns. A seamless day-night cycle rolls overhead, backed by shifting clouds, fog, rain and ambient sound that keep the valley feeling alive, and you decide when to throw switches, board a locomotive or leave it parked wherever you please.

The heart of the experience is its detailed vehicle simulation. Diesel locomotives with different transmission types and steam engines are modeled through physics, sound, behavior and hands-on interaction, so operating them demands real attention and often teaches you something along the way. Coupling, shunting, servicing and securing brakes all become part of the routine rather than menu commands.

Economy ties it together through a living industry chain, where each location supplies and demands specific cargo. Procedurally generated deliveries keep every haul feeling fresh as you earn money, unlock new licenses and climb the ranks as an engineer. As an indie adventure and casual PC sim rolled into one, it rewards patience and curiosity.
