About Darkest Dungeon®

Darkest Dungeon® poster

Darkest Dungeon is a demanding gothic roguelike that reframes turn-based RPG combat around the psychological toll of adventuring. You inherit your ancestor's ruined estate and set about reclaiming it, recruiting and training a band of deeply flawed heroes to lead through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, crumbling crypts, and darker places still. The threats you face extend well beyond monsters to stress, famine, disease, and an ever-closing darkness.

The standout mechanic is the Affliction System, which pits your party against their own minds as much as the creatures in front of them. Heroes contend with paranoia, masochism, fear, and irrationality, alongside a host of quirks that meaningfully alter how they perform. The innovative turn-based combat sets you against a gallery of diabolical foes, while a narration system marks both your triumphs and your defeats.

With sixteen and counting playable classes, including the Plague Doctor, the Hellion, and the Leper, there is plenty of room to experiment. Between expeditions you can camp to heal wounds or rally your party, and back in town the Tavern and Abbey help keep mounting stress in check. Classic CRPG and roguelike touches such as permadeath, procedural dungeons, and strong replay value round out this indie strategy RPG on PC. Can you hold back the eldritch horrors erupting across your family's estate?
