Darkest Dungeon II casts its roguelike RPG as a road trip of the damned. You assemble a party of four heroes, outfit a stagecoach, and set off across a decaying landscape on a desperate quest to hold back the apocalypse, though the greatest dangers often come from within the group itself. Between darkness and salvation stand only those four travelers and their coach.
The series' celebrated turn-based combat returns with everything from stats to rules refined, and a new Token System gives each decision greater weight while deepening the tactical layer. Every hero carries a tragic origin story to uncover, and their full potential opens up through fresh skills, paths, and items. Runs generate their own emerging narratives, with expeditions lasting anywhere from half an hour to several hours. Even a premature end yields resources that carry forward to strengthen your next attempt.
Progression extends beyond individual runs through the Altar of Hope, a sprawling system of upgrades and boons that unlocks new strategies and lets you prioritize what matters most as you plan assaults on the Mountain. The Affinity System tracks how heroes get along on the road, with bonds and friction producing combat synergies or journey-ending tension. It is a strategy-driven indie RPG built for repeated PC playthroughs.
