Barotrauma is a 2D co-op survival horror submarine simulator set on Europa, drawing clear inspiration from FTL: Faster Than Light, Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress and Space Station 13. It's a sci-fi experience that fuses ragdoll physics and alien sea monsters with tight teamwork and a steady undercurrent of existential dread. In the near future, humanity has fled to Jupiter's icy, irradiated moon, where life survives only in the ocean beneath the surface.
Crewing a submarine through that punishing deep is the core of the game. You navigate hostile waters, take on missions for humanity's last remnants, explore the ruins of an alien civilisation, and either flee or fight the monsters that stalk the abyss. Running the ship means operating complex systems together, from sonar and the nuclear reactor to weapons, engines and pumps, and communication is genuinely essential to staying alive.
There are as many ways to enjoy it as there are ways to die. You can work in perfect harmony with your crew, or brace for betrayal when a traitor lurks aboard, whether you play with friends, strangers or your worst enemies. Deep wiring, crafting and medical systems reward mastery, and built-in editors let you craft custom submarines and monsters. On PC, this indie action-strategy sim is tense, collaborative and unforgiving.
