Aniimo review-in-progress: a creature RPG with one real hook

Aniimo is most interesting when it stops looking like another monster-collecting checklist and starts using Twining to make creatures part of movement, combat and exploration.

By PC Game Pilot·Early verdict·~5 min·Zaktualizowano Oct. 1, 2026

Aniimo is a free-to-play open-world creature RPG, so the easy description is obvious: catch creatures, explore a bright fantasy continent and play across devices. The more useful description is narrower. Aniimo is a game about whether creature bonding can become a real gameplay system instead of a cosmetic friendship layer.

What works

The best hook is Twining. If the system keeps giving creatures practical roles in traversal, combat and puzzle-solving, Aniimo has a clean identity. It becomes less about filling a collection screen and more about asking which companion changes how you move through Idyll.

What needs proof

The free-to-play model is the main caution. Steam lists in-app purchases, and the launch campaign is reward-heavy. That does not make the game bad, but it does mean the first weeks are not enough to judge generosity. Watch the rare-creature path, event pressure, daily routines and whether late progression remains fair.

Who should try it

Try Aniimo if you want a softer creature RPG on PC, console or mobile and you like the idea of creatures acting as abilities, not only pets. Wait if you mainly want a premium single-player monster RPG with no live-service economy.
