Ragnarok: The New World — our take

GRAVITY's first open-world Ragnarok is the easiest the series has ever been to pick up — how much that lands depends on the monetisation.

Ragnarok: The New World is billed by GRAVITY as the first open-world MMORPG based on the Ragnarok IP, rebuilding the two-decade Ragnarok Online loop — classic jobs, Zeny, Porings, MVP bosses and player-run stalls — inside a seamless 3D Midgard you can explore on foot or by flying vehicle. It launched officially in Southeast Asia on 16 July 2026 as a free-to-play, cross-platform title on PC (official client and Steam), iOS and Android, with progression synced across devices. Eight classes are playable at launch: the six classic base jobs, the Gunslinger, and the all-new Druid.

Our take

This is the most ambitious attempt yet to translate Ragnarok Online's nostalgia into an open-world MMO, and the art direction and quality-of-life touches — offline auto-hunting, safe refinement, free stat and skill resets — genuinely lower the barrier that scared lapsed players off the original. Whether it holds up depends on the monetisation: it is free-to-play with in-app purchases and chance-based mechanics, and the long-term health of the economy and endgame matters more than the launch spectacle. If you have fond memories of Prontera's vending stalls, MVP hunts and guild sieges, this is the easiest RO has ever been to pick up; if you have no history with the series, treat it as a cosy, systems-rich cross-platform MMO worth a look rather than a must-play.
