Game of Thrones Winter is Coming priorities: a mode-first alternative to a fake tier list

Rank your next decisions before ranking commanders with different development levels and battlefield jobs.

What this list ranks

This is an editorial order for early account decisions, not an asserted live commander meta. We have not tested every awakened commander, weapon and formation against the October 2026 game. A letter beside a famous character would hide those conditions, so the tiers below describe priorities you can evaluate on your own account.

Priority 1: access, requirements and a workable plan

Confirm the account and kingdom you intend to use. Identify the next useful city requirement and choose an alliance whose schedule you can follow. Those decisions determine which activities are realistic. Before buying an upgrade, establish what it unlocks and whether that unlock is relevant to the way you play.

Priority 2: a coherent commander squad

For commander encounters, keep the team’s jobs visible: surviving, helping allies and finishing enemies. The legacy reference gives useful examples of different effects, but the current in-game skill panel is authoritative for the commander you own. Improve the specific weakness you observed instead of collecting names to satisfy an old screenshot.

Priority 3: mode-specific development

Once you know which activity matters, examine the related troop and commander bonuses, entry conditions and your group’s requested role. Advanced systems deserve a plan with an achievable milestone. A system announced in a patch is not automatically the best use of resources for a new account that cannot yet access it.

Defer: unsupported universal rankings

Do not copy a ranking that leaves out the mode, development level and date. Ask whether it evaluates a starting copy, a promoted commander or a fully developed specialist. Treat videos that never explain their assumptions as research leads. The sensible comparison is between two setups you can realistically field in the activity you care about.

Reassess after live rule changes. Our public commander references deliberately label their legacy scope and do not assign invented S-tier performance scores.
