Game of Thrones Winter is Coming turns the HBO setting into a persistent strategy game. Your castle is an account to develop, your commanders are an additional progression project, and an alliance connects those personal improvements to shared objectives. It is a useful distinction for new players: this is a long-running multiplayer kingdom, rather than a self-contained retelling of the television series.
Why the setting matters
Recognisable commanders give the roster an immediate point of entry. Jon Snow and Daenerys have their own reference profiles, but the useful question is what a commander does in the activity you are preparing for. The game separates commander battles from the army and city side of the account. A familiar face is an invitation to investigate the kit, not an automatic instruction to spend on it.
The decision before the first purchase
Ask whether you enjoy managing several connected projects over time. The appeal comes from turning one improvement into the next opportunity: a more capable city, a better prepared squad, or a clearer job within a group.
