Where they overlap
Both games are Wargaming's attempts to make tanks more approachable than the flagship 15v15 sim, and both are free to play. Blitz has spent over a decade as the mobile-and-cross-platform entry: fast 7v7 matches, a simplified damage model, and short battles designed to be played in minutes on a phone. HEAT takes a completely different route to accessibility — it keeps you on PC, console and cloud, but reframes the whole game as a hero shooter, with Agents, abilities and objective modes borrowed from the Overwatch school of design.
Where they split
- HEAT: ability-driven combat, named Agents with two-vehicle rosters, 5v5 and 10v10 objective modes, sci-fi alternate-history vehicles, and cross-play across PC, PS5, Xbox and cloud.
- World of Tanks Blitz: streamlined historical tanks, hundreds of vehicles across national tech trees, quick 7v7 battles, and true mobile support you can carry in your pocket.
Which should you play?
If portability matters most — you want to play on a phone during a commute — Blitz is the clear pick, and it has the maturity and content depth that come from years of updates. If you want hero powers, objective play and a game built for a controller or mouse on a bigger screen, HEAT is the more exciting option, provided you accept that it is a much newer, still-evolving live game. They are both easy on-ramps into Wargaming's world; they just lead to very different kinds of tank battle.
