A closer look at Drakensang Online
Drakensang Online combines direct fantasy combat with an MMO character that you keep developing between sessions. Quests and dungeon exploration give you targets for your next outing, while skills and equipment give you decisions to make when you return. You can tackle monsters on your own or organize a group.
The official class descriptions cover Dragonknight, Spellweaver, Ranger and Steam Mechanicus. Choose around the kind of combat you want to repeat: close-range fighting, elemental magic, archery or mechanical firepower. Treat events as optional objectives to evaluate after learning the basics, rather than assuming every advertised event is a beginner requirement.

Your way to play
What you can do

Classes
Four distinct starting identities
The class choice sets the theme of your abilities. Read the official descriptions and try a style that appeals to you; this profile does not rank one class as universally strongest or easiest.

Adventures
Take a purpose into each dungeon
The game supports solo monster hunting and cooperative dungeon play. Set a small objective for a run, and learn enemy behavior before treating repeated clears as a race for equipment.

PvP
An alternative to monster hunting
Official game information describes duels and group battles. Approach these as another activity to learn, rather than assuming success against monsters will translate directly into player-versus-player combat.

Getting started
Before your first session
Choose your client and account route
Install through Steam or the official site. Existing players should check account access before starting over. Bigpoint documents a connection process for Steam-created accounts to access the standalone client.
Pick a class for its combat style
Read how its abilities work, then follow the opening quests while learning movement and attack timing. Avoid choosing solely from a tier list whose assumptions may concern equipment you do not have.
Review upgrades before spending
Decide what your character needs next and inspect the cost in the current client. Try the normal quest-and-dungeon routine before buying currency or committing to a membership.
Is this for you?
For players who want repeatable fantasy combat with a persistent character and the option to group up. Less suited to someone seeking a finite offline RPG or a progression system without optional paid currency and memberships.
Things to consider
- Optional currency and memberships add spending decisions to character progression. Inspect current benefits and prices before purchasing.
- The Steam requirements retain legacy Windows 7 wording while Steam itself requires Windows 10 or later. This profile omits a current-client hardware table rather than treating those old values as a compatibility guarantee.
- Event dates, entry conditions and rewards change. No old anniversary code or event reward is promised here.
Good to know
Is Drakensang Online free or subscription-only?
The base game is free-to-play. Paid currency and optional memberships exist, so joining without an upfront game purchase is different from receiving every paid benefit.
Which classes are documented?
The official game information lists Dragonknight, Spellweaver, Ranger and Steam Mechanicus. Compare their combat themes before choosing; no class ranking is implied.
Can I play alone?
The publisher describes monster hunting both alone and in a group, plus PvP activities. Solo support does not mean every challenge or difficulty is equally suitable for a new solo character.
Can a Steam-created account use the standalone client?
Bigpoint documents a Connect Account process at server selection for Steam-created accounts. That notice also says their shop purchases remain through Steam. It does not promise that an existing standalone account can be imported into Steam.
Is the Steam release the original launch?
No. May 16, 2023 is the Steam release date. Use the official download route for the current PC client rather than assuming the game's browser history means no installation is needed.
