On paper these are both "space MMOs," but that label hides a chasm. EVE Online, running since 2003 on CCP's famous single-shard Tranquility server, is the deepest player-driven universe in the genre. Project Entropy is a 2024 FunPlus strategy MMO in the State of Survival lineage — base building, gacha hero recruitment and real-time mech skirmishes — wearing a sci-fi skin. If you go in expecting EVE-style consequence from Entropy, you will be disappointed; if you go in wanting EVE without the pain, you will be relieved.
Gameplay & combat
EVE's ship combat is built on tracking, optimal range, capacitor management and electronic warfare, and it scales to thousand-player fleet fights coordinated over voice comms. The 2014 Bloodbath of B-R5RB destroyed an estimated $300,000 of real-money-equivalent assets in a single battle — that is the ceiling Entropy is not remotely reaching. Entropy instead offers streamlined, tap-to-deploy Behemoth mech and hero-squad battles over a shared region map, playable in a few minutes on a phone. It is tactically richer than most base-builders thanks to formation tuning and mech customisation, but it is a different sport entirely.
Economy & player agency
EVE's single, shared economy is famous enough that CCP once employed a real economist to publish quarterly reports. Nearly every ship and module is player-built, player-traded and player-destroyed, and PLEX lets you convert real money into in-game ISK — money genuinely buys progress. Entropy is a themepark by comparison: scripted resources, developer-set sinks and a gacha loop where Legendary heroes and the Star Chip premium currency drive power. There is no meaningful player market, no emergent scarcity, no scams that make gaming-site headlines.
Progression & monetisation
- EVE: Free Alpha clones exist, but real capability needs an Omega subscription. Skills train in real time even while you are offline, so time — not just money — gates power.
- Entropy: Free to start, then monetised through gacha pulls and IAP boosters. Fast early progression, but 2026 player reports flag heavy seasonal spend pressure and technical instability, and its ads oversell the real-time combat.
Content & endgame
This is EVE's most decisive lead. Two decades of nullsec sovereignty warfare, corporate espionage, and documented betrayals (the Guiding Hand Social Club heist, World War Bee) give it an endgame no scripted content team could author. Entropy's long-term loop is still thin and unproven, delivered through seasons that add planets and rewards but not the emergent politics that keep EVE veterans logging in after 20 years.
Which should you play?
Choose EVE Online if you want the most consequential, player-authored space MMO ever made and will invest months to earn competence. Choose Project Entropy if you want quick, mobile alliance warfare without EVE's spreadsheet-tier learning curve — but accept that it is young, more aggressively monetised, and its durability is still an open question.
