World of Tanks: HEAT vs Overwatch 2

HEAT's clearest pitch is "a hero shooter, but the heroes are tanks," which invites the obvious comparison with the genre's biggest name. Overwatch 2 is a fast on-foot 5v5 hero shooter with a huge, characterful cast; HEAT applies the same role trinity and ability design to armoured vehicles. This is the matchup for hero-shooter fans curious whether the tank version lands.

Same DNA, different machines

World of Tanks: HEAT openly borrows the hero-shooter template that Overwatch popularised: a role trinity, characters with passives and ultimates, and short objective-based matches. Where Overwatch 2 puts you on foot as one of forty-plus heroes with tight movement and precise aiming, HEAT puts you inside a tank. Its Defender, Assault and Marksman roles map neatly onto Overwatch's Tank, Damage and Support, but the moment-to-moment feel is heavier and more deliberate — you are angling armour and managing sightlines, not strafing and flick-shooting.

Maturity vs novelty

Overwatch 2 is the genre's polished benchmark: years of ability tuning, a large and characterful roster, robust matchmaking and a serious competitive scene. HEAT is the newcomer with a small launch cast of eight Agents, a still-settling balance, and Mixed early reviews. What HEAT offers that Overwatch cannot is novelty — vehicular hero combat is genuinely fresh, and the tank fantasy gives its ultimates and objective fights a different texture.

Which should you play?

If you want the most refined hero shooter available, with depth, polish and a thriving community, Overwatch 2 remains the standard. If you are a hero-shooter fan intrigued by the idea of the genre reimagined with tanks — and you don't mind a younger game still finding its feet — HEAT is the one worth trying. It is free, it cross-plays everywhere, and it is the only hero shooter where your "character" has treads.

The verdict

Choose Overwatch 2 if you want the polished, deep, well-supported benchmark of the hero-shooter genre with a huge cast and a mature scene. Choose HEAT if the idea of hero-shooter design applied to tanks excites you and you want something new. Overwatch 2 is the safer, more refined product; HEAT is the novel experiment — worth trying precisely because nothing else plays quite like it.
