DarkOrbit vs Star Trek Fleet Command

Direct ship sorties or a starbase, fleet and officer collection: two different ways to organise a space-game habit.

The interface should match your ambition

DarkOrbit asks what you will equip and where you will fly next. Star Trek Fleet Command broadens the management layer around a starbase, a fleet and officers. The official Fleet Command overview places upgrading facilities and recruiting familiar characters alongside obtaining ships. That is a different emphasis, even though both games contain enemies and alliances.

Consider what you enjoy maintaining

A growing set of projects can be satisfying if planning is the reason you return. It can also be a distraction if you mainly want another combat sortie. Think about which screens you want to revisit between fights. DarkOrbit’s equipment planning and Fleet Command’s base-and-roster planning should each earn their place in your routine.

The Star Trek licence may be decisive on its own. If it is not, compare the early play loop before treating either progression system as an investment. Fleet Command also explicitly offers mobile versions, which matters if you want to continue away from the PC. This is a comparison of the official feature sets, not an account-power or purchase-value ranking.

The verdict

DarkOrbit is the more natural starting point if you want the ship sortie to be the centre of the evening. Fleet Command makes more sense if base development, officers and the Star Trek setting are the attraction.
