Read the correct skill panel
The official commander reference separates two sets of abilities. Check which panel applies to the battle you are preparing for: a useful effect in a commander encounter is not automatically the reason to put that character into an army deployment. Before changing your lineup, write down the job that is missing, such as keeping allies alive, applying control or providing a relevant troop bonus.
Compare the accounts you actually own
A recommendation for a fully developed commander may not describe the version currently on your account. Review its level, promotion and any additional development systems shown in your client. Compare the result you can field today with the realistic cost of the next milestone. Avoid treating a portrait in a guide as proof that acquiring the first copy completes the project.
Understand promotion before spending
The publisher’s February 2023 update replaced older promotion materials with Promotion Medals and linked further levelling to promotion. That makes old equipment checklists a poor basis for a new upgrade plan. Read the live requirement on the commander you are using, then decide whether the same resources would create a larger immediate improvement elsewhere. We do not reproduce the historical numbers as a current cost calculator.
Use the reference directory with its scope in mind
Our commander pages cover all 26 entries in the publisher’s public legacy directory, plus a separately sourced Night King reference. This is a documented selection, not an exhaustive 2026 roster. The October 2026 notice announces Bran Stark, demonstrating why the public directory cannot stand in for your current in-game collection. Awakening, weapons and live balance should be checked there before an advanced commitment.
A repeatable upgrade decision
Pick one activity, identify one shortcoming and choose one achievable upgrade. Revisit the result in the same kind of encounter. This produces a more useful personal benchmark than a universal tier list assembled from different modes and account levels.
