Getting Around Hethereau

Hethereau is big. Warp between discovered points, or grab a ride and take the scenic route — how you get around is half the fun.

By David Abder·Beginner·~6 min

Hethereau is large, and NTE gives you two ways to cross it: instant, or indulgent — depending on whether you're in a hurry or in the mood to enjoy the city.

Fast travel: phone booths and towers

When you need to be somewhere now, teleport to a discovered point. Two networks cover the map: ReroRero Phone Booths (the common ones, dotted everywhere) and Wertheimer Towers (one per district). Unlock them as you explore — enter an area and its points light up — and you'll rarely be more than a few seconds from anywhere important. The distorted, anomaly-warped pockets you'll cross are called Anomaly Zones.

Note

The Ghost Train ("Beyond the Rails") is a separate, story-unlocked bit of supernatural transit — atmospheric, but not your everyday fast-travel. For chores, use the phone booths.

Get a ride

The other option is to grab a vehicle and drive. An early motorcycle (the Novis ST-X 950) gets you street-level fast, there's a racing mini-game, and the city is built to be enjoyed from the saddle. When you're not chasing an objective, the drive is the content.

Settle in

Traversal ties into NTE's cosy side. Through the Anomaly Property system — homes bought in Fons from the Leon Estate Group — you can pick up your first place, the Wiener Apartment in Illusion Town, and decorate it into a home base you'll actually want to return to between commissions. Between teleports, a ride and a place of your own, Hethereau stops feeling like a level and starts feeling like a neighbourhood.
