Ragnarok: The New World beginner's guide: your first steps in Midgard

How to pick a starting class, level efficiently, and use the game's quality-of-life systems so you are not fighting the old Ragnarok grind.

Ragnarok: The New World rebuilds the classic Ragnarok Online loop in a seamless open world, but it hands you far more convenience than the 2002 original. Here is how to start well.

  • Pick a friendly first class. Mage (into Wizard) levels the fastest and is the most forgiving for free-to-play players; Gunslinger is a strong alternative if you want ranged burst. Both are gear-light early on.
  • Learn the dual-level system. Your Base Level drives stats and HP; your Job Level unlocks skills. Both climb as you fight, so mix questing with grinding to keep them balanced.
  • Use offline auto-hunting. The game keeps earning rewards for you while you are logged out — set it up before you stop playing so progress never stalls.
  • Refine gear without fear. Refinement is safe with no penalty for failure, so upgrade your weapon and armour steadily rather than hoarding materials.
  • Set up a stall. Even as a non-Merchant, selling drops via street-merchant stalls in town is easy Zeny; the Merchant class turns it into serious passive income.
  • Don't panic about your job choice. The game offers flexible job-switching with free stat and skill resets, so you can experiment without permanently ruining a character.
  • Save premium currency early. It is free-to-play with in-app purchases and chance-based mechanics — spend cautiously until you understand the economy.
