Project Entropy vs Star Trek Fleet Command

Star Trek Fleet Command and Project Entropy are near-identical in genre: mobile-first MMORTS with base building, ship and hero collecting, alliances and a contested galaxy map. The real differences come down to licensed IP, monetisation intensity and maturity.

This is the closest matchup on the list, because Project Entropy and Star Trek Fleet Command are essentially the same species of game: mobile-first MMORTS with base building, collectible fleets and heroes/officers, alliances and a contested galaxy map. Scopely's STFC launched in 2018 and has become one of the genre's biggest earners; Entropy is FunPlus's 2024 challenger. The real differences are licence, monetisation intensity and maturity — not the core loop.

Gameplay & setting

Both games run the build-collect-battle-alliance cycle almost beat for beat. Where they diverge is identity. STFC wields the official Star Trek licence: recognisable ships, the Federation/Klingon/Romulan faction web, iconic officers as your gacha collectibles, and later systems like Armadas and Territory Capture. Entropy offers an original universe — the year-2099 colony world Kepler-452B and its reality-warping Entropy Zone — plus customisable Behemoth mechs and Legendary heroes. Entropy's mech-building and formation tuning give it a slightly more RPG-flavoured combat identity; STFC leans harder on ship stats and officer synergies. Neither is meaningfully deeper than the other.

Progression & monetisation

This is where reputations split, and it is the one clear point in Entropy's favour today.

  • STFC: Notoriously expensive. Deep pay-to-win ship and officer packs — some at the $99 ceiling — apply heavy spend pressure, and progression is long, grind-heavy and paywall-gated. It is well-tuned but relentless on the wallet.
  • Entropy: Also IAP- and gacha-driven, with fast early progression, but as a newer game its pay economy is so far less bloated and entrenched. That advantage is provisional — FunPlus titles tend to intensify monetisation over time, and 2026 players already report growing seasonal spend pressure.

Content & endgame

STFC's biggest edge is sheer accumulated content: years of story arcs, recurring events, faction reputation grinds, and Armada and Territory endgame systems, backed by a large, organised community that has run alliances since 2018. Entropy's content library is still thin and being built out season by season, and reports of technical instability don't help. If longevity and "is there enough to do" matter most, STFC is the proven pick.

Which should you play?

Choose Star Trek Fleet Command if you're a Trek fan or you simply want the content-rich, battle-tested option — provided you can stomach its spending pressure. Choose Project Entropy if you want the fresher, better-presented take on the identical formula with, for now, a less punishing wallet and its own sci-fi universe. Just go in clear-eyed: Entropy lacks STFC's content depth and multi-year track record.

The verdict

STFC is the safer, content-rich pick and the obvious choice for Star Trek fans or anyone wanting a proven live game, provided you can stomach its spending pressure. Project Entropy is the fresher, lighter alternative with its own universe and, for now, a less punishing wallet, but it clearly lacks STFC's content depth and track record.
