Project Entropy vs Nova Empire

Nova Empire is one of the older mobile space-MMO templates that Project Entropy effectively builds on: fleet customisation, base building, sector control and alliance war. Project Entropy is the newer, better-presented take on the same well-worn formula.

Nova Empire is one of the older mobile space-MMO templates that Project Entropy effectively iterates on: fleet customisation, base building, sector control and alliance war. Released in 2017, it predates Entropy by seven years, and the comparison is essentially old-guard versus new-guard within the same well-worn formula. Entropy is the fresher, better-looking entry; Nova Empire is the aging veteran with one genuine feature advantage.

Gameplay & the shared loop

Both games run the same skeleton — build a base, grow a fleet, capture territory, wage alliance war in a persistent galaxy. The difference is flavour. Entropy is hero- and RPG-driven, recruiting Legendary heroes and piloting customisable Behemoth mechs with formation tuning. Nova Empire leans into a deeper, more modular spaceship builder, letting you tune weapon and armour slots on your vessels. If hands-on ship customisation is what you love about the genre, that is Nova Empire's one clear win over Entropy's hero-collection approach.

Presentation & new-player experience

  • Entropy: Current-gen mobile polish — 3D mechs, modern UI, onboarding built to ease newcomers in. It looks a generation ahead.
  • Nova Empire: Solid HD graphics for 2017, but visibly dated in 2026. More damaging, reviewers consistently report new players being farmed by vastly stronger veterans and entrenched mega-alliances almost immediately.

Progression & monetisation

Both are free-to-play with IAP and gacha-style systems, so neither is a charity. But Nova Empire has earned a reputation as heavily pay-to-win, where established whales and mega-alliances routinely crush anyone new — a snowball that its aging, contracting playerbase makes harder to break into. Entropy's economy is also monetised (and 2026 players already flag seasonal spend pressure and technical instability), but as a newer title it is less entrenched, and its onboarding at least tries to give newcomers a fair start. On the wallet-and-fairness axis, Entropy currently has the edge — with the honest caveat that FunPlus games tend to tighten monetisation over time.

Content cadence & longevity

Entropy is actively updated with a fresh seasonal roadmap; Nova Empire ships slower updates from a smaller live team and its niche community, established but shrinking since 2017, has been contracting. That said, longevity cuts both ways: Nova Empire has survived nearly a decade, while Entropy's staying power is still unproven.

Which should you play?

Stick with Nova Empire if you specifically want deep spaceship customisation and don't mind an older, whale-dominated ecosystem. For most people, Project Entropy is the more modern, better-presented way into the same formula, with a friendlier new-player experience today — just accept that its economy balance and long-term durability remain to be proven.

The verdict

Nova Empire still appeals to players who love deep spaceship customisation and don't mind an older, whale-dominated ecosystem. For most people Project Entropy is the more modern, better-looking entry into the same formula, but as a new game its economy balance and long-term longevity remain to be proven.
